Maldives Condemns Attack on UAE Consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan
The Government of the Maldives has strongly condemned the recent attack targeting the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Maldivian government described the incident as a serious violation of international diplomatic norms. It emphasized that attacks on diplomatic premises undermine the established rules governing relations between states.
“The Government of Maldives strongly condemns the recent attack targeting the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,” the statement said.
The government stressed that the targeting of diplomatic missions constitutes a grave breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the protection and inviolability of diplomatic premises.
Reaffirming its commitment to international law, the Maldives called for the protection of diplomatic missions and personnel worldwide.
The statement concluded by expressing the Maldives’ “full solidarity with the Government and the brotherly people of the United Arab Emirates” following the attack.
