Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) has achieved a historic operational milestone, transporting more than 7,000 passengers on 15 February 2026 and completing over 800 take-offs and landings in a single day, the highest daily traffic volume in the airline’s history.

The record-breaking performance underscores TMA’s operational capability and its capacity to manage large-scale flight movements during peak travel periods. Coordinating such an extensive number of flights within 24 hours reflects the airline’s strong fleet readiness, meticulous planning, and the dedication of its operational teams who ensure smooth and efficient transfers across the Maldivian archipelago.

The achievement coincides with continued fleet growth, as TMA recently welcomed its 66th aircraft, reinforcing its status as the world’s largest seaplane operator. The expanded fleet enhances the airline’s ability to support the Maldives’ growing tourism sector while upholding high standards of safety, efficiency, and service quality.

Further cementing this successful period, TMA was awarded the “Top Domestic Airline by Passenger Throughput” at the Velana Awards 2026, the inaugural aviation awards hosted by Velana International Airport. The accolade highlights the airline’s sustained operational excellence and its critical role in connecting visitors to destinations throughout the country.

As the Maldives’ leading domestic air transport provider, TMA operates transfers from Velana International Airport to more than 80 resorts across 16 atolls. From its early days operating just two aircraft, the airline has grown into a cornerstone of the nation’s tourism infrastructure, improving accessibility to remote island resorts and supporting the continued expansion of the industry.

With record-breaking operations, fleet expansion, and industry recognition aligning in one season, Trans Maldivian Airways continues to strengthen its leadership in global seaplane aviation.
