PayPal Officially Launches in the Maldives Through Ooredoo m-Faisaa
PayPal, one of the world's most widely used and trusted online payment platforms, has officially launched its services in the Maldives today, marking a major milestone in the country's digital transformation journey.
The service is being introduced through a partnership with Ooredoo Fintech, following the issuance of an Inward Remittance License by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). Through this collaboration, PayPal services will be made available to all mobile users in the Maldives via Ooredoo's m-Faisaa platform.
The introduction of PayPal fulfills a key pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Efforts to bring the international payment service to the Maldives began in January last year as part of the government's broader digital economy agenda.
The availability of PayPal is expected to significantly benefit local online businesses, freelancers, and content creators by providing easier access to international markets and payment opportunities. President Muizzu has previously highlighted the platform's potential to help independent professionals generate income from clients and audiences worldwide.
In addition, the government expects the service to enhance convenience for tourists visiting the Maldives by offering a globally recognized payment solution, further supporting the tourism industry.
As the world's leading online payment network, PayPal's arrival in the Maldives is seen as a significant step forward in expanding digital financial services and strengthening the country's digital economy.
