Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that construction of seven new parking buildings in the Greater Malé area will begin soon, as part of efforts to tackle longstanding congestion issues in the capital.

In a post shared on X, the Minister confirmed that preparatory work is already underway, with construction expected to commence in the near future.

According to Ameen, the planned facilities will provide space for more than 2,600 cars and 1,000 motorcycles, significantly increasing available parking capacity in the densely populated city.

The initiative is being carried out under the direction of Mohamed Muizzu, as part of the government’s broader strategy to address urban infrastructure challenges.

Parking shortages have long been a pressing concern in the Malé area, where a growing number of vehicles has strained existing infrastructure. Authorities expect the new parking structures to reduce congestion and improve overall traffic flow across the capital.
