Private Jet Arrivals to Maldives Surge in Past Two Weeks
The number of private jets arriving in the Maldives has surged significantly over the past two weeks, according to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
MACL reported that 128 private jets landed at Velana International Airport between February 28 and March 14. This marks a 166 percent increase compared to the same period last year, when only 70 private jets arrived in the country.
Data from MACL shows that during the first two weeks of March last year, the Maldives recorded an average of five private jet arrivals per day, with the highest daily total reaching nine jets. In contrast, the same period this year has seen the daily average rise to more than 12 jets.
The highest number of private jet arrivals was recorded on March 3, when 18 jets landed in a single day.
The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) said the sharp increase in private jet traffic is largely linked to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
